Cervical Smears

The cervix is the neck of the womb. A few cells taken from the cervix could reveal changes known to occur before cancer develops. These changes can be easily treated and cancer can be prevented. It could save your life!

We recommend that all women between the ages of 25 – 64 should have regular smear tests.

Cervical smears are important so if you do not wish to have one, please come and discuss this with one of our nurses.

A reminder will be sent when your next smear test is due (usually every three or five years) but ring us if you are unsure. When your smear is due, please make an appointment with one of our nurses. The smear result will be sent directly to you.

You should receive results in writing within 14 days from the date of the test.
